Development Officer

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in professional non-profit fundraising and marketing
  • Or, any combination of experience, education and training which provides the knowledge,
  • skills and abilities to perform the functions of the position
  • Current Arkansas driver’s licenses and auto liability insurance

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge and ability to apply the methods and techniques required to successfully achieve annual fundraising goals and implement fundraising campaigns
  • Knowledge of the general principals related to budgeting, planning, cost benefit analysis, grant writing, and grant program administration
  • Ability to conduct research and to compile and analyze data in order to develop future fundraising plans
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with both individuals and groups
  • Ability to interact effectively with donors, volunteers and co-workers
  • Knowledge of the various uses and software applications for word processing, spreadsheet and database programs  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and coordinates fundraising programs, events, and activities that promote the Agency’s mission, financial goals, and objectives
  • Develops, implements, and coordinates annual campaign strategies and programs including but not limited to direct mail and acquisition mailings, internet fund raising via the Agency’s website, Board of Director and Agency Staff pledge drives, and sponsorships.
  • Tracks fundraising and annual campaign results, assesses actual results to goal, and recommends changes when needed to achieve financial objectives
  • Performs duties as assigned to support the Agency’s Capital Campaign, Major Gifts, and Planned Giving programs
  • Researches grant sources and writes grant proposals
  • Maintains ongoing contact with the Agency’s staff regarding development and fundraising programs, plans, and activities
  • Supports database management by appropriately acquiring names to build donor list and by helping to assure that lists are accurate and up to date 
  • Runs fundraising database by keeping records up to date, entering gifts, running reports, etc
  • Prepares and makes presentations as assigned
  • Supports public awareness, media events, health and community service fairs, and referral sources development as needed
  • Takes actions to ensure messaging and interactions with Volunteers is consistent
  • Implements plans and strategies to maximize volunteer engagement
  • Develop, promote and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities
  • Assists with ongoing support and guidance for Meals on Wheels volunteers
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for all other Volunteers
  • Identify community outreach opportunities for volunteer recruitment
  • Oversees the creation and distribution of various communications and publications for volunteers
  • Interact with all other departments as necessary for volunteer development and organization
  • Coordinates with the Meals on Wheels Volunteer Coordinator to implement overall volunteer relations
  • Takes the time necessary to understand the specific needs of the customer
  • Responds with what he/she can do rather than flatly saying “no”
  • Follows-through on what he/she has told the customer
  • Provides name and number of the person the customer is needing
  • If appropriate person to handle issue is unavailable, takes information and ensures appropriate person receives it
  • Remains involved until customer has been linked to the appropriate person/service for resolving a problem
  • Ensures that the customer can be helped with only one other phone call or at one other location and will not have to be directed again to someone else
  • Focuses on the situation, issue or behavior, not on the person
